July News with Silk

We have been lucky enough to receive a very positive experience with one of our customers who has been using Our cold pressed Argan oil to treat her spots. Here is what she had to say:

Spots and Argan Oil

So I want to talk about Argan Oil and acne. To give you a little background I am 29 years old and have been suffering with cystic acne since my early twenties, in my teens my skin wasn’t too bad but as soon as I came out of Education and in to the real world my skin problems started. For years I just washed with water and occasionally moisturised, however at around 25 I thought enough is enough and I started looking in to products to help clear up my skin. From then until now I have spent a small fortune and used all the products under the sun! My skin is combination to oily and I found that some products were so harsh it dried my skin out, but my quest continued to find the miracle product that would banish those red painful bumps and spots.

Then about two months ago I decided to book an appointment with a dermatologist and see if they had any answers, that is when I found out that I was suffering with cystic acne in particular. A twenty minute appointment later I was presented with a ‘course of action’ ranging from peels to creams totalling £800! I looked at her in shock and thought that’s it, I’ll be suffering with this for life as there was no way I could afford to spend that much with no real guarantee!

After some last ditch research I decided to not focus purely on treating my spots and bumps but to actually look at my skin as a whole and what I can do keep it nourished and healthy which in turn may improve the spots and increase the healing time of my post acne scars. That’s when I stumbled upon Argan Oil. You may be thinking why would I want to put an oil on my already oily skin but I was that desperate and had spent a considerable time researching Argan Oil. So let me explain further…

What is Argan Oil?

Argan Oil is sourced from nuts produced from the Moroccan Argan Tree (otherwise known as Argania Spinosa). Rich in natural vitamins, phenolic compounds and carotene this provides anti-oxidant properties and it’s also full of non-saturated fats such as Omega 3 and 6, which aid in keeping skin radiant and youthful.

Okay so you’re still thinking why would you put oil on your oily, acne prone skin….

Well skin becomes oily when too much sebum is produced than necessary which can lead to blocked pores and increased chance of acne or spots. Argan Oil contains Oleic Acid which actually regulates the production of sebum and helps emulsify skin water and oil. This makes water more effective in cleansing your pores and getting rid of excess sebum as well as bacteria and cells. Alongside this Argan Oil is high in Vitamin E which aids skin regeneration and assists with the healing of acne scarring.

My Routine:

Step 1 – After removing my makeup with Simple Micellar water I cleanse with Vichy Normaderm Deep Cleansing Purifying Gel.

Step 2 –  I pat my face dry and apply 2-3 drops of Silk Oil of Morocco Pure Argan Oil with damp hands in sweeping motions.

Step 3 – After all the oil as absorbed which normally takes 5 – 10 minutes I apply Vicky Normaderm Anti Age to the face and Boots Cucumber Eye Gel around my eye area.

Step 4 – (Morning only) I apply La Roche Posay Anthelios Factor 50. SPF on a daily basis is a must and prevents my scarring from becoming inflamed and redder.

My Results:

I have been using Argan Oil within my skin routine for the past 4 weeks and I have noticed a massive improvement with my skin. Firstly my skin has never felt so soft and smooth, it feels hydrated and healthy unlike before when acne products left it dry and redder. In regards to my acne I can’t say yet whether it has decreased the generation of new spots/bumps from appearing but my scarring and aftermath marks appear much less red and healing has accelerated. Already I feel much more confident in my skin and know that it is getting the love it deserves. I will continue to incorporate this in to my routine and feel the results will only improve more over time. I’m now wondering why I’ve spent so much money on processed products containing all sorts of chemicals when I could have been using an organic, cruelty free product that provides the same affects and costs a fraction of the price! Now that I know and have witnessed the benefits that Argan Oil has on my skin I will start looking at other products!
